Charity’s £10k boost to keep Covid-19 out of care homes
Erskine to use cash for thermal imaging
Temperatures in Paisley are set to soar as the week goes on - with a scorcher expected on Friday.
After the constantly changing weather of last week, things are set to improve over the next few days, getting warmer as the weekend approaches.
According to the Met Office, the beginning of the week looks a bit grim, with downpours expected tomorrow and Wednesday.
However, it is still set to be warm as
Veterans’ charity Erskine has received £10,000 to help pay for potentially lifesaving equipment in a bid to keep Covid-19 out of its care homes.
The organisation’s homes in Bishopton were included in the five Renfrewshire sites that recorded deaths from coronavirus.
Across Renfrewshire, 110 care home residents tragically died from the virus in five of the region’s 22 care homes.
Er s k i n e has now announced that a funding boost from The Royal Navy temperatures reach 19 degrees.
But the tail end of the week is looking bright, with the sunshine making a welcome appearance from Thursday, with temperatures reaching a high of 21 degrees right through to Sunday.
The forecast states: “A cloudy start with outbreaks of rain on Wednesday, but becoming drier and brighter.
“Dry and bright on Thursday and Friday and temperatures rising.”
However, things don’t look set to and Royal Marines Charity will pay for thermal imaging at their four homes and activities centre.
The charity says all of its sites have been Covid- 19 free for several months, but the safety precautions will be put in place to keep the virus from entering any of its sites in the future as lockdown restrictions begin to ease.
The new equipment will detect small temperature increases in people entering buildings.
Staff can then ensure those with a raised temperature do not enter, reducing the possible risk of virus transmission.
Bosses at the veterans’ last, with the long range forecast from August 7 to 16 stating that the weather will probably “stay more unsettled with further rain at times” throughout the month.
The forecast adds: “Cooler conditions may follow from the west over the weekend, perhaps preceded by showers or thunderstorms. For the following week, a fair amount of dry, bright warm weather looks likely for much of the UK.” charity have hailed this step as “hugely important” as visitors begin to return to the homes and sites begin to reopen.
They say the equipment will also have significant long- term benefits for infection control at Erskine as it will help detect any future variants of coronavirus, norovirus or seasonal flu.
Erskine’s director of care, Derek Barron is delighted with the boost from the charity - which has supported Erskine for ten years.
He said: “We are extremely grateful to The Royal Navy and Marines Charity and
Greenwich Hospital for its latest generous donation.
“This £10,000 grant will greatly benefit veterans at Erskine’s homes and our activities centre in Bishopton.
“The installation of thermal imaging cameras will enable us to identify any staff and visitors entering our buildings who have a raised temperature, significantly aiding us in our attempts to control Covid-19 and other seasonal viruses.
“This will help Erskine to continue delivering the expert care and support that Scotland’s veterans truly deserve, even more so at this challenging time.”
