Council set for roads resurfacing blitz

-

Roads that will be resurfaced over the next year have been revealed by East Renfrewshire Council, writes Local Democracy Reporter Drew Sandelands.

Council chiefs are being asked to give the green light to a programme of work for 2020/21 when they meet next Thursday.

It follows an additional £15million investment in roads infrastructure over five years, which was agreed in February 2019.

Most of this year’s £3m allocation has been directed towards unclassified roads which“require significant works”.

There has been a delay in the delivery of the programme due to restrictions on the construction industry as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Any slippage will be carried forward to 2021/22.

East Renfrewshire Council is ranked in first place for the condition of A-class roads but data for unclassified roads, around 80 percent of the area’s network, shows almost 40 percent should be considered for maintenance.

“It is clear that the considerable achievements on the classified network are being overshadowed by the figures for the unclassified network,”a council report states.

Carriageway resurfacing is planned on roads including the C3 along Neilston Road, Uplawmoor.

The list includes Station Brae, Neilston; Crossmill Avenue and Waulkmill Avenue, Barrhead and Alexander Terrace, Mafeking Terrace and Millview Terrace in Neilston.

Other roads to be resurfaced include Cruachan Way/ Cruachan Drive and Oakbank Drive in Barrhead.

The council previously approved several schemes in February. These include the C2

Kingston Road, Neilston, from Glen Shee Avenue southwards; the A736 Levern Road (Glasgow Road), Barrhead from the cemetery to the Hurlet; the A736 Lochlibo Road, Barrhead from Lochlibo Terrace to Donnies Brae and B776 Rowbank Road at the B775 Gleniffer Road to the A736 Lochlibo Road.

Footway resurfacing is also included in the new programme of work.

It is planned for the A736 Lochlibo Road, Barrhead, from Lochlibo Terrace to Donnies Brae and Woodside Crescent, also Barrhead.
