Fearless asks young people to join the war on drug dealers

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Youth crime charity Fearless has launched a new digital campaign to raise awareness among young people of the harm drug dealers can inflict on vulnerable people.

Following the success of its national campaign in June, the charity is working across the Renfrewshire area to reinforce its message that drug dealers often preyon the most vulnerable. Youngsters are also reminded that the charity’s online reporting service is completely anonymous at fearless. org

Lyndsay McDade, senior youth projects officer for Crimestoppers, said: “We’re urging young people across Renfrewshire to tell our charity who they know or suspect is responsible for manufacturing or dealing drugs. It only takes two minutes to complete our simple anonymous online form at fearless. org and we guarantee you’ll stay 100 per cent anonymous.

“We can’t trace IP addresses or any contact details that could identify you. Nobody will ever know the information came from you.

“Often young people want to speak up with information about crime but fear of stigma or reprisal can prevent them, so our charity empowers them with a way to make their communities safer without fearing those repercussions – confident that they will remain 100 per cent anonymous, always.

Fearless is the youth programme of Crimestoppers.

Lyndsay added: “Over the past year, we’ve been delighted to work closely with many schools and youth groups across Renfrewshire. Young people in the area have consistently told us that our 100 per cent anonymous reporting service is a really important tool for them and we’re confident that our latest campaign will help to encourage them to continue to speak up to our charity.”

Chief Inspector Paul Cameron, from Renfrewshire police division, said: “We are committed to raising awareness of the dangers associated with street crime, drugs and violence inflicted by serious and organised crime.

“The community have an important role to play, and we would encourage the younger generation to visit fearless.org where they can report what they know 100 per cent anonymously.”

If any young person feels like they themselves are struggling with addiction or are being groomed or exploited, the charity strongly urges them to speak to a trusted adult or contact Childline on 0800 111.
