Man taken to RAH with wound on face after rammy in close

28-year-old needed stitches as cops launch probe

A man needed stitches to his face after he was attacked in a close.

Police were called when a thug kicked off at three people in Viscount Avenue, Renfrew.

Two men, aged 28 and 24, and a 20 year- old woman were hurt during the rammy on Monday night.

It is understood the oldest victim suffered a burst lip which needed stitches when he was attacked in the communal close by another man.

He was treated at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and later released.

The other two victims sustained minor injuries when they tried to intervene in the incident, police said.

Emergency crews raced to the scene around 9.45pm to offer medical assistance.

Several police cars were seen in the street as an investigat­ion into the incident got underway.

The area was taped off as officers scoured the close for evidence, quizzed potential witnesses and checked for CCTV opportunit­ies.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed they are now investigat­ing.

Inspector Allan O’Hare, of Johnstone, Renfrew and the villages community policing team, said: “Police were called to reports of a disturbanc­e within a close in Viscount Avenue, Renfrew around 9.45pm on Monday evening.

“A 28- year- old man was subsequent­ly taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment to a facial injury and was later released.

“A 24- year- old man and a 20-year-old woman also sustained minor injuries.”

He added: “Enquires are ongoing into the incident and we are following a positive line of investigat­ion.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed a 32- year- old man has been arrested and charged with serious assault and a report submitted to the procurator fiscal.
