Man rushed to RAH after he steps in front of bus in west end

A man was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury after he stepped in front of a bus in Paisley’s west end.

The 29-year-old man was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital following the accident, which happened in the town’s Well Street.

It is understood the injured man was walking with his partner when he stepped onto the roadway and into the path of an oncoming No 64 McGill’s bus.

Passers-by went to the stricken man’s aid before emergency crews arrived at the scene around 3.50pm.

Traffic was brought to a standstill as police closed the road in the aftermath of Monday’s accident as paramedics worked on the injured man.

He was taken to Paisley’s A&E department for treatment to a head injury.

His condition is said to be serious but stable.

No criminal charges have been brought as a result of the incident, which police are treating as an unfortunat­e accident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoma­n said: “Police were called to attend reports of a road traffic accident involving a bus and a pedestrian in Well Street, Paisley around 3.50pm on Monday.

“A 29-year-old man was taken to hospital by ambulance after suffering a head injury.

“Medics describe his condition as serious but stable.”

She added: “Enquiries are ongoing, however it appears at this time to have been an unfortunat­e accident.”

Meanwhile, emergency crews, including the Scottish Fire and

Rescue marine rescue unit were called to reports two women were standing on the wrong side of a bridge railing in Paisley on Monday night.

Police and ambulance staff raced to Carlile Place, near the White Cart around 9pm.

The area was filled with emergency vehicles in response to the incident.

The women were successful­ly removed from the bridge crossing and no injuries were reported.
