Man is held by cops after woman has jaw broken

A 42- year- old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged serious assault which left a young woman with a fractured jaw.

The man is accused of violently flooring the 24-year-old victim while she was out with a pal earlier this month.

She was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital following the alleged attack where she required surgery to fix a broken jaw.

The incident happened around 11pm on Saturday August 8 at the junction between King Street and Douglas Street.

The woman was with a pal when they were approached by an unknown man who allegedly brandished a weapon before punching the woman in the face, leaving her unconsciou­s on the ground.

The alleged attacked sparked a massive manhunt for a man in the weeks following the incident, with detectives scouring CCTV from the area and speaking to potential witnesses.

A Po l i c e S cotland spokesman said: “Following extensive enquiries by officers a 42-year-old male has now been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged serious assault of 24- year- old woman in Paisley on Saturday, August 8.

“A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”

Me a n w h i l e , an investigat­ion is underway after a crook rifled through a flat in Argyle Street, Paisley between 12.30pm and 1pm on Monday.

Neighbours alerted the cops shortly after but the suspect had fled the scene before they arrived.

An appeal for witnesses has been launched.

A Police S cotland spokeswoma­n said: “If you saw or heard anything suspicious in the Argyle Street area of Paisley between 12.30pm and 1pm on Monday, then please get in touch with officers.

“A flat was broken into by an unknown suspect.

“At this time it is not known if anything was stolen from the property.”
