ST MIRREN TREASURE TROVE WILL HELP ACCORD HOSPICE

Treasure trove of St Mirren goodies is for sale tomorrow

- ALISON RENNIE

St Mirren fans need to make sure they hit the back of the net when this treasure trove of memorabilia goes on sale.

A Buddies fan has donated lots of his precious strips, training t-shirts and programmes to Accord Hospice.

Now the hospice is getting ready to kick-off a sale of the items at its store on Glasgow Road tomorrow.

David McFadden, fundraising manager at the Paisley hospice said: “We have got a lot of St Mirren supporters who support the hospice as well and one of them has generously donated these items.

“I believe he is downsizing so he had to go through his collection and he wanted to donate it to us.

“We hope it will bring a lot of people into the shop who haven’t been before and raise money for the hospice as well.”

David said St Mirren fans who also volunteer with the hospice have been helping the shop volunteers decide appropriate prices for the various items.

A post on Accord’s Facebook page about the items going on sale was liked and shared more than 150 times in just a few hours.

David said: “We think it will be popular when the items go on sale.

“When we advertised it on Facebook it went a bit crazy.

“We are very grateful for the donation.” The gentleman who donated the items wants to remain anonymous but said giving to the hospice was an easy decision.

David said: “The gentleman said that he has always had a soft spot for the hospice because his Dad was a big supporter.

“He knew Lawrie Morton well who helped to found the hospice.

“Both the gentleman and his wife are supporters of the hospice too.”

The items will be on sale at the hospice shop on Glasgow Road from 10am tomorrow. Customers are reminded to maintain social distancing and adhere to current government guidelines when in the store.

Accord Hospice was founded in 1982, and its objective is to provide high quality specialist palliative and end of life care to the communities of Renfrewshire and areas of East Renfrewshire.

When we advertised it on Facebook it went a bit crazy. We are very grateful
