Wynd Centre chief confirms reopening

-

A lifeline charity that provides counselling services to vulnerable people is preparing to reopen its doors.

Paisley’s Wynd Centre, which offers mental health support to children as young as five, will resume its vital work in mid September.

The organisation received a £42,000 grant last month to cover the costs of the building throughout lockdown and to pay for covid safety measures that are currently being installed at the School Wynd venue.

John Stewart, director of the centre, which is an outreach arm of Oakshaw Trinity Church, said: “Thanks to grants received The Wynd Centre has managed to meet the costs of maintaining the building during the lockdown period from March and preparing the premises to ensure it complies with government guidance to make sure the premises are safe for staff and users.

“As in the past, income from the letting of the premises will ensure the continuance of the various services to the folk of Paisley and beyond.

“Those who have previously used the premises will be contacted by The Wynd office to confirm starting dates.

“The counselling manager will be advising clients directly of the updated arrangements for the counselling services.”

John previously told the Express getting the centre’s nationallyrecognised counselling service up and running again was its main priority.

When the centre closed there were 60 clients aged from five years old up to adults being helped by 40 trained volunteer counsellors. The centre, which also offers space to 30 other organisations such as PACE, SSAFA and Victim Support, says it will try to accommodate other local groups which may be unable to use their usual premises because of the lockdown regulations.
