Covid will not stop us making this year memorable for pupils
Gleniffer High‘s new badgeholders make vow
Senior students at Gleniffer High School say they are determined to make their final year at school an enjoyable one, despite coronavirus restrictions.
Sixth year pupils made the declaration as the Paisley school announced the head boy, girl and depute roles this week.
Ebo Anyebe was named head girl and Matthew Fairlie head boy.
Their four deputies are Kirsty Lyle, 17, Charlotte Johnston, 17, Shay Conway, 16 and Max McGuire, 17.
All six were handpicked to become badgeholders after being nominated by their peers and interviewed by the school’s senior management team.
Head boy Matthew, 16, from Foxbar, said he wants to give back to the school as much as he can.
He said: “Due to the nature of this year, one of my main goals is for the badgeholders to consistently provide a strong support network to the school as Covid-19 continues to pose multiple challenges, and I believe we have a great team to do this.
“Planning the usual social and charitable events is another priority for the team and we are enjoying brainstorming ideas together with the hope that they can go ahead.”
Head girl Ebo, who is also 16 and from Foxbar, added: “I enjoy being actively involved in school activities and I could not think of a more fulfilling way to conclude my time here.
“I am intent on bringing new ideas forward regarding the school’s PSE curriculum and our recognition of the school’s BAME community.”
Kirsty, from Glenburn, thanked her 154 fellow S6 students for nominating the badgeholders to their roles, explaining: “I want to give back to our year group. They chose us, so lets make it an enjoyable year.
“Let’s keep it upbeat, positive and fun.”
That message was echoed by depute head boys Shay, from Foxbar, and Max, from Glenburn.
“We want to be the best we can be for the entire school,” Max said.
“It’s all about teamwork and communication and it’s important to be a unit.”
Charlotte, from Foxbar, added: “I can’t wait to work as a team to create the best possible outcome this year.
“We want to make it as memorable as we can for those of us leaving and an overall amazing year despite the conditions we are in due to covid.”
All of the badge holders are committed to continuing to raise funds for charity despite coronavirus restrictions. They are looking at creative ways to continue to support causes such as Children in Need and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Gleniffer High headteacher Lisa Chalmers said: “Our S6 badgeholders this year are a wonderful team of young people who exemplify the values of
Gleniffer High School.
“I am very much looking forward to working with them this year and supporting their leadership development and activities.”
