Burgh get league trophy but

with junior football.

“We still have a trophy day planned, the committee are totally supportive of that. I want these guys to get the plaudits they deserve for what was an amazing run of form.

“We will do it as soon as we can but that will obviously only be when it is totally safe to do so.”

While the players weren’t able to share in the magic moment, they have at least been able to get back together on the pitch after the club made a welcome return to full contact training last week.

And McKim believes that has helped soften the blow of not being able to lift the trophy as a team.

He said: “We’re back to full contact training now which has been brilliant. The lads are all delighted to be back at it.

“It was such a long lay off, longer than anything I’ve ever known before. It’s been a tough time for all of us but credit to them as they’ve come back in really good shape.

“The standard has been brilliant so far. It’s great that they’re back enjoying themselves because it’s been hard without proper football for so long.”

The West of Scotland League recently announced that they hope to get the next season up and running on Saturday October 10.

And that finally gives Burgh a set in stone date to target, providing there is no problem regarding coronavirus in the coming weeks.

McKim added: “It’s good to get a start date sorted and we’re hoping to get our friendlies going from Wednesday, September 16.

“Hopefully we can keep coronavirus under control because it is a bit more risky at our level given there’s no testing.

“All going well we will be back in action which is really important mentally for the boys. Some people are saying it’s too early to come back but a lot of these boys really need it back in their lives.”
