KIDS LOVE THE GREAT OUTDOORS

ST MARY’S CHILDREN GET GROWING THANKS TO SUPERMARKET:

- CARLA TALBOT

Youngsters at a Paisley nursery enjoyed some green- fingered activities thanks to a generous donation from a local supermarket.

Tots who attend St Mary’s Nursery were treated to a number of outdoor supplies thanks to Morrisons supermarket at Anchor Mills.

The classes of children aged between two and four, have been able to spend their days at nursery planting flowers and digging in the Maxwellton Road nursery’s garden.

The new garden supplies were handed in to delighted staff last week thanks to Morrisons community champion Sharon Dennison.

The youngsters and the teachers were also given a hamper of snacks, which principal teacher Kara McGuire says went down a treat.

Kara McGuire said: “Sharon contacted us to see if we needed any outdoor supplies and she delivered us some compost, wheelbarrows and bulbs for children to plant in our gardens.

“We have been putting it all to good use since the children returned to nursery and they have already been out planting the bulbs and watching them grow.

“It has been great for them to come back and have these great activities to enjoy.

“Sharon also delivered some T-shirts for children and a hamper of snacks for the children and the staff which was brilliant.”

Sharon, who works as the supermarket’s community champion in Paisley, has been reaching out to schools and nurseries in the area to offer support as they return to the classroom in the wake of the pandemic.

Sharon, from Paisley, was keen to help give children access to supplies to help them return to normality after the lockdown.

She was delighted to see the toddlers at St Mary’s making the most of the donation.

Sharon added: “We are trying to help people in the community just now as much as we can.

“I had contacted St Mary’s as I wanted to help the children return to some sort of normality.

“Times are hard for everyone just now and we wanted to give the children some fun activities and make sure they had access to snacks.

“I’m so glad that the kids are enjoying the garden supplies.”
