Ladies come out fighting whatever the weather

- WOMEN’S RUGBY

Paisley Rugby Club women and girls rugby players battled the elements to make a strong start to life with the club.

Around ten hardy souls braved torrential rain to start the first women and girls section training session at The Anchor.

While more had confirmed to attend the session the weather clearly played it’s part, but those that did attend had a positive first experience with the ball.

New head of women and girls rugby Louise Smith revealed experience levels varied from those who had never played before to those with some experience of the game.

She told Express Sport: “It was great to see so many turn up in the rain to make our first women and girl’s section training session a success.

“This is an exciting time for Paisley Rugby Club and I am delighted to be involved.

“I’m looking forward to the season and hopefully see the women’s section go from strength to strength.”

Smith has just joined the club, having set up a similar women’s section with Falkirk Rugby Club.

The sessions will continue to run every Wednesday at 7.30pm and Smith is looking for any women and girls with any level of experience to get along and meet the new team.

Club captain Euan Stuart said: “It’s great to launch women and girls rugby at the club.

“It’s been a long road to get there but now we have started, the sky is the limit. Since being appointed as the head of women and girls rugby, Louise has done a brilliant job and we cannot thank her enough. For the club as a whole, we are delighted to increase our rugby offering to the local community and hopefully with this launch, we will see more of the Paisley public coming through the doors at The Anchor.”
