Supermarket workers help with Spotless September
Renfrewshire’s Spotless September campaign is getting a helping hand from Morrisons.
Staff from the supermarket’s Falside Road store have thrown their weight behind the environmental campaign, which encourages people to clean up their communities throughout the month of September.
Six members of staff from the Paisley store donned their gloves and braved the rain to take part in a litter pick of the Lochfield area.
The team, including Shane Magill, Stuart Goodwin, Connor Ralston, Kirsty Mort, Nicola Douglas and Claire Cunningham, collected six bags of rubbish from the area which was collected by Renfrewshire Council.
The staff, who were lead by the store’s community champion Claire Cunningham, were keen to get involved as part of the Team Up to Clean Up initiative.
Claire told the Express: “As a store, we have been thinking a lot about what we can do to support our local community recently.
“Whether it’s supporting Team Up to Clean Up with litter picks, or helping care homes by cutting grass or gardening, it’s all about what we can do to help.
“One of the easiest things we can do is get out there and support these initiatives.”
She added: “Team Up to Clean Up is an easy project to support and that, together with the care home gardens, means we are creating a nicer environment for everyone.”
Team Up to Clean Up is Renfrewshire Council’s award-winning project which sees volunteers organise litter picks and environmental projects in their own neighbourhoods.
Last year a thousand people took part in Spotless September – which is part of the Team Up to Clean Up campaign. Community groups, schools, businesses and lone volunteers all headed out on litter picks.
Anyone who wants to take part can get in touch with the council’s StreetScene team to be provided with sanitised equipment including litter pickers and bags, as well as having the collected litter taken away by council workers.
Advice is also available on how to conduct litter picks while adhering to coronavirus guidelines.
