Jealous joiner screamed abuse at partner as she held their baby

- RON MOORE

A tanked-up joiner trashed his own home because he was jealous of his partner’s brother doing DIY work at their property.

Sozzled Jamie Lee Collins, 29, flipped out at Ms Tracey Flemming, as she cradled their 11-week-old baby in her arms.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Collins returned “intoxicated” to their home at Curlew Place, Johnstone, on August 23, and began to shout abuse at Ms Flemming because her brother had been doing cementing work at their house.

Procurator fiscal depute Susan Barr told the court: “The accused returned in an intoxicated state and began arguing with Ms Flemming regarding the fact that her brother had been at their home and had been doing cementing work in the garden.

“She tried to reason with him while holding their 11- week- old baby. However he continued to verbally swear about her brother.

“At that point, she decided to record him on her mobile phone.”

The prosecutor said Collins ranted, “When he comes back next week to finish it, and I am not here, tell him to bring his own f**king tools”.

He then went upstairs and “threw a large potted plant down the stairs, causing it smash”.

Ms Barr added: “He then picked up a star-shaped object in the bathroom and threw it, causing the inner pane of the window glass to smash.”

His partner, scared by him, recorded him again on her phone where he continued to rant, saying she should get her brother to fix the window.

He also threatened he was going to “smash the whole house up”.

Collins appeared at court where he pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering threats at his partner.

He also admitted throwing household items around, causing damage to the property.

Defence agent Waqas Ashraf said his client is “deeply embarrassed” by his behaviour and is keen to repair the relationship with his partner.

He said: “He was knows he was out of order.

“He is deeply embarrassed by his behaviour and he knows the impact this will have had on his partner and their young child.

“He has pleaded guilty to the offence at the earliest opportunity and both parties wish to reconcile their relationship.”

Sheriff Tom McCartney said he was adjourning sentencing Collins to see whether Ms Flemming wants a Non Harrassment Order and released him on bail until October 6.
