Drunk woman smashed her way into ex’s home ... to ask about some keys

- RON MOORE

A crazed girlfriend sparked terror at her partner’s home when she smashed his window and climbed into the property.

Charlene Woods, 37, targeted the home of boyfriend John Shirley in Tannahill Road, Ferguslie Park, during the early morning incident.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Mr Shirley and his friend Jamie Kennedy were in the living room at the property at around 2am on March 23, when all hell broke loose.

Procurator fiscal depute Susan Barr told the court: “Mr Shirley and Mr Kennedy were sitting on a couch in the living room when they heard a voice outside.

“They knew the voice belonged to the accused.

“They heard her shouting and swearing. “The complainer also heard his door being kicked repeatedly.

“He turned out the lights and decided to ignore the accused.

“A few seconds later, the complainers heard a loud smashing sound.

“Mr Kennedy observed that a projectile had been thrown and had smashed the glass of the living room window, and that glass shards were lying on the floor.”

The court heard Woods then climbed into the property.

The prosecutor added: “Both saw the accused’s hand reach in and grab the handle of the window, which she opened.

“The accused was seen climbing through the window at this time, where she began to ask about some keys she believed were in the property.”

Cops who arrived at the house found her still in the living room in a “state of intoxication”.

However, Mr Shirley, did not cooperate with police in making a domestic complaint against her.

Woods, of Underwood Court, Paisley, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and repeatedly kicking the front door of the property.

She then threw an implement through the window, recklessly and wilfully destroying the property.

Woods appeared at court, where she also admitted further charges of breaking bail conditions barring her from approaching or contacting Mr Shirley in May and June.

Defence agent Gemma Elder said her client was admitting responsibility for the offences and urged the court to show her leniency in the meantime as they obtain background reports in preparation for sentencing her.

Sheriff Tom McCartney called for an upto-date report and released her on bail until October 23, when she will discover her fate.

He also asked prosecutors to check whether Mr Shirley needs the protection of a Non Harassment Order.
