Garden team’s plea for donations

-

Erskine Community Garden is calling for donations to help kit out its ever-growing army of volunteers.

An online fundraiser, launched by the group, hopes to collect £1,000, which will go towards buying power tools as work to improve the garden and village steps up.

The space has become a popular spot for families since it opened two years ago and, with an increase in the number of green-fingered helpers, more equipment is needed to help with their work.

Organisers said they are not in the habit of asking for donations, but asked anyone who could help to give what they can.

Heather Clissett, who drives the Barwood Road project, is behind the appeal.

She said: “We have great hand tools and have been donated two fantastic petrol mowers.

“We also have three Stihl cordless power tools.

“Due to the amount of volunteers we now have, we could achieve more if we had more power tools, whether cordless or petrol, brand new or pre-loved.

“Therefore, we want to fundraise to obtain such tools. “

She added: “We tend not to ask for donations or funding, but we felt this is something we could achieve a lot with for the community.”

The garden is used by members of the community for remembrance, consolation, meditation, comfort and support.

As well as providing a space for those who want to contribute to a community garden by growing fruit, veg and flowers to share within the community.

Pre-lockdown, the group regularly held events and gatherings, including dog meets and soup sharing.
