Fresh covid cases sees deep clean at school

-

Fresh Covid cases have been identified at a covid-hit Paisley primary school.

A small group of staff and children at St James’Primary have tested positive for the virus and public health officials are continuing to investigate the possibility they caught the virus at school.

Renfrewshire Council confirmed on Friday that more cases had been identified at the campus after a member of the school community tested positive for Covid-19 the previous week.

All those named as close contacts of the newly identified cases have been asked to self isolate for 14 days with all other members of their household.

The local authority said a deep clean of the school, which shares a campus with Mossvale Primary, was conducted over the bank holiday weekend.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Test and protect contact tracing is being carried out at St James’Primary School. This has identified a small number of cases amongst pupils and staff at the school.

“We have worked closely with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and school staff to identify any close contacts of those who have tested positive for Covid-19, and parents and carers of any pupil identified have already been contacted.

“All pupils should continue to attend school as normal, after the holiday weekend, if they are well and unless they have been asked to self-isolate.

“A deep clean of the school building has also taken place over this weekend. Working closely with the NHS we will continue to monitor the situation and take any further action that is required.“
