JAK’S BACK AND HE’S OUT FOR FOR POINTS

Goalie wants Buddies on the up after disappointing loss to Killie

-

Saints goalkeeper Jak Alnwick is adamant St Mirren cannot afford to produce another dismal half of football.

The Buddies meek performance on Saturday allowed Kilmarnock to plunder all three points in Paisley.

With the Saints particularly disappointing in the first half, Alnwick was beaten on his return to action after two weeks out by

Nicke Kabamba after he slotted home the winner.

Alnwick insists his side must improve after slipping to the bottom of the Premiership table after nine games.

He told Express Sport: “I think we showed them too much respect.

“The second half we had a go but it was a poor game for us.

“Those kind of games we should still be coming away with a point, or even sneaking a 1-0 win.

“It was scrappy, there wasn’t many chances but you’re still hoping you can take something from the game.

“You can’t play like that for 45 minutes in any game, it doesn’t matter who you’re playing.

“We gave ourselves a task to do and we did react in the second half.

“You can’t fault the boys’ effort, but you’ve got to still put points on the board.

“We’ve got to start doing that. “We need to dust ourselves down and go again against Aberdeen.”

Ex- Rangers keeper Alnwick showed no sign of ring-rust after his enforced absence, producing a wonderful save to deny Greg Kiltie at the start of the second half to keep his side in the match.

He was disappointed that flashpoint didn’t spark a bigger response from his teammates, with the Buddies ultimately struggling to produce any clear cut chances all afternoon.

Alnwick added: “I probably knew I was going to have to make some saves in the second half.

“When you’re at home and you’re 1-0 down, you know that the other team will be trying to nick a goal on the break.

“I was hoping after that save we could have kicked on and I thought that we did pin them in for the full second half.

“Apart from that one chance we dealt with the game well.

“We kept on pressing them in but we just didn’t do enough to score.”
