Coffee morning raises a latte cash
East Renfrewhire MP Kirsten Oswald hosted an online Coffee Morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
This year has been particularly challenging for people living with cancer and their families.
Every year, Macmillan Cancer Support encourages supporters to take part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to raise funds to support its vital services.
This year was the 30th anniversary of the charity’s biggest fundraising event.
Councillor Oswald publicised this year’s event, which took place last month, on social media and hosted her own online coffee morning, which has raised over £100 for the charity.
Last year, MacMillan coffee mornings raised an incredible £27.5million and the charity is hoping to top that this year.
Councillor Oswald said: “I know only too well the vital work done by Macmillan Cancer Support, including locally by Macmillan East Renfrewshire.
“This has been a difficult year, but nothing stops a Macmillan Coffee Morning – not even coronavirus.
“I was determined to do my part to contribute to the 30th anniversary event.
“My online guests and I were all pleased to raise a mug in support of the work Macmillan does and to make our own contribution to its services.
“At this tough time, the work done by Macmillan makes even more of a difference than would usually be the case, and it has my wholehearted support in its work and efforts for those affected by cancer.”
