Cops seal off cemetery after man seriously hurt

26-year-old rushed to A&E with puncture wound

Mystery surrounds an incident which saw police seal off a Paisley cemetery after a man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Cops locked down Hawkhead Cemetery after reports of a disturbanc­e on Sunday evening.

It has been revealed a 26-yearold man was taken to A&E with a significan­t puncture wound.

Police were tipped- off to a disturbanc­e at the site around 8.50pm on Sunday.

Detectives are trying to piece together what happened, including examining the possibilit­y the man was injured in a fall.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 8.50pm on Sunday, October, 4, police received reports of a disturbanc­e on Hawkhead Road, Paisley.

“A 26-year-old man was taken to Golden Jubilee Hospital,

Clydebank, with serious injuries where he is described as being in a serious but stable condition.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”

Hawkhead Cemetery was closed to members of the public until yesterday morning, with police standing guard.

Meanwhile, police are investigat­ing after a gang of youths set a car on fire in a quiet Paisley street.

The firebugs set the Volkswagen motor alight in Jura Road, Glenburn in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It is understood the car was left a write-off in the incident.

Fire crews raced to the scene around 1.15am to reports of a fire.

Witnesses reported seeing a group of three or four youths dressed in dark clothing running off from the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a vehicle fire in Jura Road, Paisley, at around 1.15am on Monday.

“It has been deemed the fire was started deliberate­ly and an investigat­ion is underway.

“If you saw or heard anything suspicious in the street, please get in touch with officers.”
