Thief swiped alcohol then lobbed bottle at shop worker

Lout threw booze at man who chased him

A yob nicked two bottles of booze from a Paisley grocers then hurled one at a shopkeeper who chased him.

Police are hunting the mindless lout who asked for two bottles of spirits at the Sunshine Grocers in Green Road before he lifted them from the counter and ran off.

A 26- year- old man working in the shop gave chase and caught up with the thief who lobbed one of the bottles at the him.

The victim did not sustain any injuries during the incident, which happened at around 7.35pm on Sunday.

Officers probing the incident said yesterday the man they are looking for is tall, slim and was wearing dark clothing.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team said: “A male attended the Sunshine Grocers in Green Road, Paisley around 7.35pm on Sunday.

“He thereafter made off from the premises in possession of two bottles of alcohol.

“A 26- year- old male member of staff followed him at which point the suspect threw a bottle at the victim and made off.

“The victim was uninjured in the incident.”

She added: “If you saw or heard what happened then we would like to hear from you .”

Meanwhile police are also investigat­ing after pallets at a Paisley building site were set alight.

Firebugs torched the wood at a housing developmen­t in Hawkhead Road around 9.45pm on Friday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service attended and dampened the flames before handing the investigat­ion over to police.

“Deliberate­ly setting fires can be extremely dangerous, for members of the public and for those actually starting them.”
