Get ready for some big frights

Neighbourhood pumpkin trail and spooky windows

- ALISON RENNIE

Hundreds of families are getting ready to celebrate Halloween thanks to spooky packs being delivered by the Tannahill Centre.

Like many events, Halloween won’t be the same this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but centre staff are determined to make sure there will be lots of fun.

From Sunday, October 25, residents across Ferguslie Park are being invited to join in the big neighbourhood pumpkin trail by decorating their garden or window.

And 300 packs will soon be given out to residents to help them get decorating and enjoying some Halloween fun.

Volunteer coordinator Bobbie McCabe said:

“Over the past year we’ve seen the local community transform their windows and gardens into amazing pieces of artwork as part of our Community Advent Calendar and our 25th birthday celebrations, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what local people come up with for Halloween.

“We’ve distributed packs with a wide range of different resources to make sure no two gardens are the same.

“This includes glow sticks to create spooky creatures, balloons and crepe paper to make creepy crawly spiders and resources to make scary masks.

“There are also resources in each pack for families to make a pumpkin that will go on display as part of the pumpkin trail and some colouring in and activity sheets to keep children entertained.

“We’ re also asking people to recycle things like tubes, cereal boxes and milk cartons as part of their displays.

“We’ve had a few delays in materials being delivered to us, but we are hoping to get everything out in time for the October week holidays.

“With all the new restrictions now in place, we appreciate it will be difficult keeping kids entertained, so we hope our packs help.”

The Tannahill Centre will be sharing fun and inexpensive ideas on how to decorate gardens and windows on its Facebook page.
