Woman battered for telling yobs off

A young woman needed six staples to her head after she was brutally attacked in a Paisley close.

The 24-year-old was rushed to the town’s Royal Alexandra Hospital after she was kicked, punched and struck with a weapon during a violent rammy in Well Street.

Cops raced to the west end street around 5pm on Thursday after reports of a disturbanc­e.

It is understood the victim confronted youths acting antisocial­ly in the close when another woman took umbrage and launched the shocking assault.

The victim was battered about the head and body by a man and woman.

It is believed she was struck with an unknown weapon during the attack.

A 29- year- old man was also injured as he tried to intervene, though he did not require hospital treatment.

Police are now hunting the violent pair responsibl­e for

the shocking onslaught and have appealed to anyone who witnessed what happened to come forward.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community police team, said: “Police were called to reports of a disturbanc­e in Well Street, Paisley, around 5pm on Thursday.

“A 24- year- old woman suffered a number of injuries to her head and body, which required hospital treatment after she was seriously assaulted by a male and female.

“A 29- year- old man also suffered minor arm injuries in the incident.”

She added: “We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the attack to come forward to police.

“This was a prolonged and violent assault which left the victim badly injured and we are very keen to trace the individual­s responsibl­e.

“We are carrying out a range of enquiries in the area, including checking for CCTV opportunit­ies and going door-to-door.
