Join the battle against covid by getting tested
A new asymptomatic test facility will go live in Barrhead from Monday in a bid to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
People who have the virus may not show symptoms, or they can be so mild or unusual that they are not recognised as coronavirus.
This means that, without knowing it, they could be spreading the virus to their loved ones, work colleagues and the wider community.
The asymptomatic test centre will initially target people who live and work in Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor and will be at the Cowan Park 7s Pavilion in Aurs Road.
The centre works on a drop-in basis, with no appointment necessary, and will be open Monday to Saturday for the next six weeks.
The centre will be open from noon to 7.30pm on Monday to Friday and noon to 5pm on Saturdays.
These test sites are for members of the public who are not experiencing symptoms of the virus.
If you feel you may have symptoms - such as loss of taste and smell, a high temperature or new and continuous cough - you should arrange a test via your GP or NHS24.
The creation of the Barrhead facility comes after people living in
Gallowhill, Paisley, were also urged to find out if they have Covid-19 after a spike of cases in the area.
A mobile testing unit for people without symptoms of the virus was set up in the Paisley neighbourhood yesterday. The testing unit will be split over two sites, both on the north end of Montgomery Road.
The teams will be there for a week and the aim is to slow the spread of the virus in the area – which has seen high rates of transmission recently.
There will be a drive-thru site in the car park of the Gallowhill Court high flats and a walk-through facility in the car park of Martyrs’Sandyford Church.
These will be open to any resident of Gallowhill to find out if they have the virus.
They are only for those who are asymptomatic – anyone with symptoms should go to an NHS-run centre.
Testing will be run by the Scottish Ambulance Service and will be open each day from 9.30am to 6pm.
