Saints ace attracting interest from clubs
St Mirren’s in- form Irish midfielder Jamie McGrath has been linked with a summer move to Premiership rivals Aberdeen.
The free-scoring 24- yearold is also said to be attracting interest from English League One outfit Peterborough United.
McGrath has been a revelation since joining the Buddies on a free transfer from Dundalk in January 2020.
He has notched up 15 goals for Jim Goodwin’s side this season, including strikes against Rangers and suitors Aberdeen.
It will come as no surprise to fans that the influential playmaker is on the radar of teams across the UK after a fine run of form.
It has been reported that incoming Aberdeen assistant manager Scott Brown is very keen on signing McGrath and has urged the Dons new gaffer Stephen Glass to swoop now.
But it’s understood the North East side would need to fork out a six figure sum for the much admired Irishman.
Darren Ferguson’s (below) Peterborough United see McGrath as an ideal addition to bolster their midfield options they gain promotion to the English- Championship.
However, St Mirren remain confident of keeping hold of their prize asset who still has a season to run on his current deal.
Talks are ongoing on a new contract but so far nothing has been agreed.
He has flourished under fellow countryman Goodwin, who tipped the former St Patrick’s Athletic man for a call-up to Stephen Kenny’s Ireland squad.
Mc G rath has been instrumental in Saints is excellent season so far. He netted a late winner to dump Aberdeen out of the Betfred Cup 2-1 last November.
That goal was the start of a run where he netted five goals in four games including a double to
knock
Rangers out of the Betfred Cup in a 3-2 win.
McGrath has scored 15 times this season in 42 appearances and netted in the Scottish Cup quarter- final defeat of Kilmarnock (5-4 on penalties after 3-3) draw on Monday.
He scored a penalty in the final minute of extra- time to force a penalty shootout against Killie.
McGrath held his nerve to step up for St Mirren’s first penalty in the shootout – and convert.
