Vandals target playpark
Vandals slammed for wrecking play park
Fury as safety surface ripped up
Mindless vandals who tore up rubber safety flooring at a popular Paisley play area have been blasted by fuming councillors.
Yobs damaged the Spey Avenue playground in Foxbar, leaving debris strewn across the park.
It is understood the destruction happened on Tuesday night.
Councillor Stephen Burns, who represents the Paisley South West ward, was left raging at the wanton destruction which left a repair bill likely to run into thousands of pounds.
He is urging anyone who witnessed what happened to contact the authorities.
He said: “It is just mindless vandalism. It’s not on.
“This is a really well used play park that is enjoyed by families and kids, so for this to happen is just unacceptable.
“It could cost a significant amount to repair, which is money that could be spent upgrading the park.
He added: “It appears they have used a tool, like a Stanley blade or something sharp to get the safety surface up.
“They’ve removed quite a big area, so it would have taken some of effort.
“It is frustrating because the fence has recently been painted and new lighting has gone in, so efforts are underway to make it safer and more appealing and then something like this happens.
“It’s just really disappointing that this could happen in our community.
“If you know who did it or have any information, please get in touch with police.
Provost Lorraine Cameron, who represents the same ward, was left fuming by the damage.
She added: “It’s disgraceful. Whoever did it should be ashamed of themselves.”
Police Scotland said it is aware of the vandalism and is carrying out enquiries.
Express readers with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
