they amassed a mammoth 24 million steps.
So far, they have raised over £ 7,000 and plan to keep the fundraiser open during May to sweep up any late donations.
Fundraiser Tori Bell said: “The total amount for the renovation project is more like £ 150,000 but what this event does is demonstrate to the bigger funding sources we’re applying to, that the community supports the idea.
“It’s been a lot of fun and everyone has been really engaged. Businesses have been really generous too, with time and money, and we will recognise all who donated, or took part in some way, with their company name on a sign in the final refurbishment.”
The project was the brainchild of Kirstin Innes, local mum, author, and director of Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust.
She said: “The pandemic really highlighted what our village park was lacking.
“Older people in the village also found it difficult to find places to meet as there is currently no outdoor seating in the park, and it was made very clear that the local teenagers had nowhere to go.
“We hope to install a completely new play area with sustainable wetpour rubber flooring, an intergenerational seating area and a teen hangout pod with exercisepowered Bluetooth speakers.”
