Proxy vote for those isolating

-

Voters in Renfrewshire who have suddenly been forced to isolate and can’t get to their polling station tomorrow will still be able to have someone else cast their ballot for them.

Anyone who has contracted Covid-19 or has been asked to stay at home because a member of their household or close contact has tested positive will have until 5pm on polling day to apply for an emergency proxy, providing they found out they had to isolate after the usual deadline for proxy applications.

To do this, people are being asked to call the election office on 0141 618 2300 or the electorial registration officer on 0300 300 0150.

Anyone who has already organised a proxy vote can arrange to change the person who is appointed as their proxy if that person is unable to attend the polling place as a result of coronavirus.

Residents can also apply for an emergency proxy for a number of other reasons.

These are: in the case of a medical condition, illness or disability arising after the deadline for ordinary proxy applications ;

if they are a mental health patient detained under civil powers;

if their occupation, service or employment means they cannot go to the polling station in person and they became aware of this after the deadline for ordinary proxy applications.

Further information on proxy voting is available at www. electoralcommission.org.uk

Voters can also get more information on voting and support available for voters during the covid pandemic online.
