£50k boost to support care home for veterans

Erskine receives vital cash from forces charity

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

A forces charity has just awarded its biggest ever grant to Erskine care home.

The backing of £50,000 has come from The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and its supporting partner Greenwich Hospital.

This grant will support Erskine’s “sector- leading” care for Royal Navy and Royal Marines beneficiaries at The Erskine Home, Bishopton.

Erskine’s chief executive, Ian Cumming, said: “Erskine is extremely proud to care for Scotland’s Royal Navy and Royal Marines veterans.

“Although the past year has been challenging, our staff have continued to work exceptionally hard and with courage and compassion.

“Erskine’s excellence in care delivery has been more difficult, but even more crucial during the pandemic and we continue to take all possible measures to ensure resident and staff safety.

“We are delighted our elderly veterans can now spend more time with friends and family as Scotland comes out of lockdown, and we look forward to further developments over the coming months.

“Erskine would simply not be able to offer this level of support without our wonderful supporters.”

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Greenwich Hospital has been backing Erskine for more than a decade.

Erskine veterans are now said to be back enjoying indoor visits and “quality time” with their loved ones.

Ian added: “As always, Erskine’s priority is to ensure our veterans can enjoy the high quality of life that they all truly deserve.

“Our home is gradually returning to the vibrant community that it always was before the pandemic. This is only possible thanks to our loyal, generous supporters like The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Greenwich Hospital.”

The RNRMC’s director of relationships and funding, Mandy Lindley, added: “Erskine have always provided the highest quality of care to veterans and this has not changed throughout the covid pandemic.

“This latest grant reflects an ongoing commitment to our beneficiaries in their care.”
