DAVE FINLAY RAPIST JAILED FOR FOUR YEARS

Creep took woman to his flat before pouncing

A vile sex attacker who picked up a woman and took her back to his flat before raping her has been jailed for four years.

Don Ferguson, 36, attacked the then 25- year old at his home in Underwood Road, Paisley.

He took off her lower clothing and underwear before pouncing on her.

A court heard Ferguson had met the woman in Glasgow city centre earlier the same evening before taking her home.

He had previously denied raping the woman during the attack on September 2 in 2018, but was convicted by a jury at a trial.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that he has since accepted his guilt and now offered an apology to the victim.

Yesterday, a judge told Ferguson: “You are a 36-yearold man with no previous convictions at any level and the fact you come before the court today having been convicted of the very serious crime of rape seems to be

the ultimate result of wrong turnings taken in your life.”

Lord Sandison said Ferguson had “drifted away” from education and began to move in “a circle of street drinkers, drug takers and sex workers”.

“You picked up and took home with you that unfortunate woman who became your victim,” said the judge.

Ferguson, who watched the sentencing via a TV link to Glasgow’s Barlinnie prison, was told that he will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.

Defence counsel Geoff Forbes said a background report prepared on Ferguson was “very unusual” as he had made an admission and given a full explanation to a social worker.

Mr Forbes said it was a positive development that he now accepted his guilt and added: “He has asked me this morning, through the court, to apologise to the woman for his conduct towards her.”

The defence counsel said that Ferguson intended to take advantage of any courses available to him during his sentence.
