Cameron expects feisty second leg

was an Arthurlie committee man who passed away very young not that long ago.

“Both the club committees came together to discuss the chance to play for a trophy in his memory.

“It also gave us a chance to get the crowds back in and generate some revenue for both of us.

“There was a really good turnout for the first leg and it was wonderful just to see fans back inside the Brig O’Lea.

“The fans certainly got their money’s worth as there were six goals in the first 20 minutes.

“It was played at a really frantic pace. It wasn’t played like a preseason friendly at all, the boys were tearing into each other.

“It was so competitive and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better game to warm up for the new season and test to see where we are in terms of fitness.

“Everything we’re doing is geared towards that July 17 start date, and hopefully we can get over the line on Saturday and put Neilston’s name on the trophy.”

Cameron is expecting another tough test from local rivals Arthurlie in the return leg at Dunterlie Park this afternoon.

He believes the Barrhead side have recruited very well ahead of their return to action after sitting last season out, while he also faces a selection headache with several players spending this weekend down in London following Scotland.

Cameron ( right) added: “I expected Arthurlie to be good but I was really impressed with them, especially going forward.

“They’ve recruited very well and brought in some former Premier Division players.

“They broke at us with real pace and were very expansive.

“A couple of their goals came from our own corner and our own attacking free-kick, so we’ll definitely be more wary of that this time around.

“We’ll be missing around six of our players who went down to Wembley for the

Scotland v England game, which will make things a little bit tougher for us too.

“We’ll still have a very strong starting line- up though and we’ll bring a few boys up from the Under

20’s and give them an opportunity.”
