Something for everyone this autumn
As autumn begins, there are lots of things to look forward to in Renfrewshire, including Paisley Halloween Festival presents Out of this World.
This year’s Halloween celebrations will take place over five days and use spectacular installations and light displays to transform Paisley town centre and the River Cart into an immersive unearthly experience.
The installations, which have been created by artists including Studio Vertigo and Mike Jones, will bring an alien invasion, creatures from the deep and a constellation of stars to the heart of the town centre.
The immersive trail will illuminate Paisley Abbey, the town hall and the River Cart between 5pm and 10pm from Thursday, October 28 until Monday, November 1
I am excited for everyone to see the wonderfully unique world this trail will create in the town centre and would encourage everyone to come along and experience it themselves.
The Spree and Wee Spree will also make their highly anticipated returns to Paisley in October.
The Spree, which begins on Thursday, October 7, always brings the world’s best musicians to Renfrewshire.
This year’s line-up includes The Twilight Sad, Nadine Shah, Arab Strap, The Bluebells, Michael Rother, Kathryn Joseph, Retro Video Club and Nick Lowe.
The Wee Spree will also bring lots of family fun to Paisley town centre when it begins on Saturday, October 9.
The popular festival will feature BuddieBeats Music Makaton and Sensory classes, a family silent disco with music from Silent Knights, dancealong film screenings, comedy workshops and performances from FUNBOX.
There will also be pop-up circus and street performances from Circus Alba and Oceanallover and a magical soundscape of outdoor sound sculptures in Paisley Abbey Gardens which will move to the Castle Semple Visitor Centre, Lochwinnoch, on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17.
Culture is an important part of Renfrewshire’s history, heritage and identity and it is fantastic to be able to hold events like this in our communities again.
My SNP administration has worked hard to make sure these festivals can be held safely and enjoyed by everyone during the pandemic so please come along and have fun.
Tickets for The Spree and
Wee Spree are currently on sale through the Paisley Is website.
Renfrewshire is also full of exciting places to visit and explore.
Families who want to get healthier while enjoying the great outdoors can do so by taking part in Beat the Street, a six-week competition designed to help children and loved ones get active.
People taking part in the contest can collect points by walking, wheeling and scooting between beat boxes in Bridge of Weir, Elderslie, Houston, Howwood, Kilbarchan, Linwood, Johnstone and Lochwinnoch.
The points, which are collected on cards and key fobs scanned at beat boxes, can then be turned into prizes.
The content, which runs until Wednesday, October 27, is a fantastic way to keep fit and see more of our wonderful towns, villages and landscapes.
More information on how to take part can be found on the Beat the Street Renfrewshire website.
