Paisley Pirates and Glasgow Clan fans have been handed a massive boost after a deal was finally struck to secure Braehead Arena as their home ice rink once again.
After months of“highly complex negotiations” following the collapse of former owners intu, an agreement has now been reached that allows for the recommissioning of the ice to get underway.
That will ensure the rink is available as soon as possible for both clubs ahead of their respective new seasons.
A Clan spokesperson said: “We are delighted to announce that following months of highly complex negotiations, an agreement has been reached relating to the future of Braehead Arena.
“Supporters will have noticed that the majority of our 2021/22 roster is already in Scotland, with the remaining players joining us in the next 48 hours, ready to start a training camp in Dumfries and Auchenharvie.
“It’s now 20 months since we played our last home game and we are tremendously excited about being back in our home venue and playing in front of the Purple Army once again.”
Despite securing the venue officially, the Clan have been forced to cancel their planned King’s Inch
Cup fixture with Dundee Stars on Wednesday, November 3.
Their opening home league games against Fife Flyers (Saturday, November 6) and Belfast Giants (Saturday, November 13) will also be rescheduled for later dates, with their first game of the new EIHL season now an away clash against Belfast Giants at the SSE Arena on Sunday, November 7.
