The Boys’ Brigade is back in town

- ALISON RENNIE

These youngsters from Boys’ Brigade companies across Paisley have been enjoying getting together with their friends again.

During lockdown many companies met via Zoom and enjoyed virtual visits from guests including Alan McManus from St Mirren and Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain from Police Scotland as well as den building and the BB’s GoOutdoors initiative.

But now the boys from the 8th, 15th and 22nd Paisley have been able to get back together and have fun working towards the BB programme’s aim of Grow, Learn and Discover.

This session they’ve been busy creating their own chocolate bars, playing parachute games, trying trampolining on a visit, attending the recent Scotland v Israel game, playing lots of games and even created a pyramid catapult.

At Battalion level there is a programme of competitions for Juniors and Company/Senior boys ranging from volleyball, potted sports and First Aid to ten pin bowling and Christian faith.

They also hold fun afternoons for the youngest members, the Anchors.

Jan Phillip from the 22nd company said: “This session, with eased restrictions, we’re able to be back face-to-face and it’s just great.

“Boys’ Brigade has sections to suit all ages: Anchors for P1– P3, Juniors for P4–P6 and then Company and Seniors for boys in P7 right through to S6.

“Our programme of badge work starts at P1 and culminates in the Queen’s Award, the Brigade’s highest award.”

All of the companies in Paisley and surrounding towns are keen to welcome new members and details of meeting times for each section can be found by visiting the Battalion Facebook page, Paisley and District Battalion, The Boys’ Brigade.
