Relief astravel redlist ends
A leading Renfrewshire company has welcomed the end of travel red list restrictions, just in time for the festive rush.
Barrhead Travel backed the government’s decision to end restrictions from 4am this morning.
The Scottish Government announced the “four nation” decision will mean an end to quarantine for travellers to and from the seven ‘red list’ countries, including Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Panama.
Jacqueline Dobson, President of Barrhead Travel, said: “At long last, we can finally say farewell to the Red List which has impacted the travel industry, travellers and holidaymakers alike.
“It’s particularly welcome news for those looking to travel to the Dominican Republic, which is usually in high demand at this time of year for thanks to the glorious winter sun and excellent value.
“We look forward to being able to help our customers plan their much-awaited holidays here, knowing that there will be a growth in confidence in the market.”
She told how travellers are already showing willingness to return, saying: “The announcement, combined with the introduction of lateral flow tests for day two testing, will help stimulate demand over the winter period.
“December is proving one of the most popular months for holidays right now as families, couples and friends look to escape to sunnier climes, with the Canaries, Florida, Dubai and the Caribbean claiming the top spots for the coming months.
“We’re also beginning to see the likes of Thailand return for travel in the coming months thanks to the easing of restrictions.”
Vaccine certificates from a further 35 countries and territories will also be accepted by the Scottish Government.
They say some managed quarantine capacity will remain for time being, should the situation change at short notice and say the situation will be reviewed on a regular basis.
