Help on heating gives Kathleen peace of mind
Kathleen Harrison is one of over
24,000 people who have benefitted from the Scottish Government’sWarmer Homes Scotland programme.
The scheme provides home improvements such as insulation, double glazing, or a new heating system for eligible households, worth about £5000.
Kathleen, 66, from Perthshire, was having problems with her old electric heaters, which were difficult to control and either overheating or not warming up enough.
She explains: “The bills were going to be enormous, so I decided I needed to look into something else.”
There is no gas supply where Kathleen lives, so many of the homes in the area only have storage systems, but heat pumps were an option she could consider.
On the recommendation of her partner, Victor Hawkins, she contacted Home Energy Scotland for advice.
Because Kathleen is recovering from cancer and also suffers from some memory issues, she receives a Personal Independence Payment (PIP). That meant she was eligible for a grant to pay for her new heating system, much to her delight.
Kathleen says: “I got seven new radiators, a heat pump and a new boiler – all paid for by Warmer Homes Scotland. It has had a huge impact on my wellbeing as I was always getting so stressed with my older heaters and the high bills.
“As we go into winter, I am actually looking forward to it as I am delighted with my new heating system.”
With winter fast approaching and fuel bills about to soar, the
Government’s Home Energy Scotland is urging all householders living north of the border to act now and make their home more energy efficient.
You may also be able to get a grant from the Scottish Government’s Warmer Homes Scotland programme, which supports households struggling to stay warm and keep on top of energy bills.
The grants are to help eligible homeowners and private sector tenants, who have lived in their property for at least a year, to make their homes warmer and more comfortable by installing a range of energy saving improvements.
