£1.2mfor new projects
The deadline to submit ideas for Renfrewshire Council’s brand-new campaign #YouDecide is fast approaching and residents are being encouraged not to miss their chance.
The campaign gives local communities control over part of the council’s budget, which on this occasion is £1.2million from the environment and infrastructure service.
Local people are being asked to submit their ideas for infrastructure projects, such as road safety initiatives, new walking or cycling routes, outdoor gyms, or anything they know will make their community a better place to live, work and visit, by Sunday, November 14.
Ideas can be submitted online or via post boxes placed in libraries, leisure centres and Morrisons supermarkets across Renfrewshire.
The campaign forms part of the council’s commitment to community empowerment and is the first Community Choices project of its kind undertaken by Renfrewshire Council.
Councillor Michelle Campbell, depute convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “We want to involve our communities in decision making around how we spend our budget as there is no substitute for local knowledge.
“We want to continue to work closely with our communities so please put forward your ideas before the deadline and tell us how we can make a positive difference to your neighbourhood.
“We’ve had a fantastic number of ideas already and I know we will see a real difference in Renfrewshire when you choose the projects you want to see completed and the council carries out the work.”
Once the ideas process concludes, council officers will carry out a feasibility study on each idea and, once complete, a shortlist of all viable projects will be put to a public vote in early 2022.
