Paisley Barbell lifters bag big PBs
Paisley Barbell lifters weren’t scared to scale new heights at the Scottish Powerlifting Halloween Open.
Two of the club’s members recently returned to the platform in the first of a number of competitions as 2021 draws to a close.
Jim Shedden and Reon Juskowiak both stepped up to the task at the event, held recently in Glasgow, with both producing outstanding results.
Juskowiak, full of confidence from his success in the BDFPA single lift event in the summer, produced some incredibly strong lifting to finish first in the 93kg category with a new PB total of 615kg.
His lifts were a 227.5kg squat, 127.5kg bench and 260kg deadlift.
Club founder Mark Fulton said: “All three were personal best lifts and are testament to the hard work he has put in over the course of the year.
“Reon also qualified for the British Masters and finished second overall for all male lifters.”
Shedden had a challenging prep for the competition but produced his best when it was required.
He executed a flawless, composed display of lifting going nine for nine and achieving his target of British level qualification.
He finished the competition with an incredible four personal bests, including a 167.5kg squat, 97.5kg bench and 222.5kg deadlift for a total of 487.5kg.
Fulton said: “Both performances were outstanding in different ways.
“Jim came in with a clear plan to hit his target total and executed it to perfection, while Reon showed great composure to recover from an issue on his first squat to produce a great total, which I’m sure he will build on next year.
“The club would like to thank Reload, Anvil Strength Gym and Browns Pressure Washers for supporting the club and its athletes competing in the event.
“We as a club are now reaping the benefits of our move to Anvil earlier in the year.”
Paisley Barbell’s club lifters will be in action again as members compete in the WDFPF World Championships in Ireland on Saturday, November 27.
The club is then set to host the UK Masters and Scottish Championships the following weekend at Anvil Strength Gym, with a strong contingent ready to represent the club.
Fulton added: “We have sponsorship opportunities which are still available, as well as gym memberships at Anvil Strength.
