Paisley Rugby Club juniors grab big grant
Paisley Rugby Club’s junior section has received a huge cash boost from a Renfrewshire Council fund.
The club’s blossoming junior group now has more than 100 members and 20 volunteer youth coaches.
And recently junior manager Laura Critchel and Community Engagement Officer Paul Gilligan attended the Celebrating Renfrewshire Awards.
There they were thrilled to receive a grant of £700 from the Celebrating Renfrewshire Fund, which sees youngsters from around the area voting on what groups they’d like to see supported most.
Critchel told Express Sport :
“I applied for the grant on behalf of the club’s junior section and was absolutely delighted to discover we had been awarded £700.
“Knowing that young people in Renfrewshire have voted for us to receive this makes it extra special and we are so appreciative.
“It will enable us to continue providing inclusive and fun training and exercise for children at Paisley Rugby Club.”
The cash is going to go towards providing youth coaches’ training courses from the Paisley North, West and Central area.
A club spokesperson added: “Paisley Rugby is so grateful to receive this funding and want to say a huge thank you to all the young people who voted for us.
“Laura is also our child protection officer and has recently been holding training with junior coaches to ensure our youth members’ safety, health and wellbeing are a number one priority.
“Our juniors are the future of the club and we pledge to provide the best coaching and training we can for them!”
In total 800 young people cast 2,547 votes, with 43 projects receiving funding.
A grand total of £96,523 was awarded to youth projects in Renfrewshire, including Paisley Rugby Club.
