The mission to allow Peter’s last wish to rest in Paisley

-

Before she died, she made it known that wherever her late son was going to be - which was with his dad - that she wanted to be taken too.

Lisa said it was Peter’s “shining moment” when his daughter Gabrielle chose to study at the University of St Andrews, where she is currently in her final year.

Gabrielle will be with her mum at the Auchincloss lair for the ceremony.

Lisa said: “It was always her dream to live in Scotland for part of her life so she could fully experience her father’s heritage that he so proudly spoke of and loved.

“She has truly fallen in love with your beautiful and breathtaking country and its generous and hospitable people.”

Peter Hutchison, membership secretary of the Renfrewshire Family History Society, tracked down the family plot.

Peter,74, said: “Lisa thought some family members were buried at the Abbey and called to see if they could help her.

“I had left my card at the Abbey and Lisa contacted me.

“I could not find an Auchincloss at the Abbey, but the society have pictures of all the headstones at Hawkhead and Woodside.

“I checked Hawkhead and found the Auchincloss grave.

“Ahead of her visit I am still doing some research, but one of his ancestors married James Coats.

“I don’t think Lisa has realised yet how important the Coats family were in Paisley.”

The retired Renfrewshire Council car park supremo plans to give the family a tour of the area on December 1, pointing out all the famous sites as well as heading up to the Gleniffer Braes for a panorama.

Lisa said: “Peter Hutchison of the Renfrewshire Family Historical Society is the person that has made all of this possible in helping me locate the family plot and to connect me with all of the people that have made this reunion come to fruition.

“He has been instrumental in pulling all the loose ends together for me and has been wonderful to work with. I could not have done this without his help and guidance.”

Peter said: “Lisa’s father-in-law always wanted to return to his native Paisley and I think it is lovely that his son is joining him. Lisa is carrying out his wishes, putting him to rest.

“It is something the family always wanted to do.

“Quite a number of the Auchincloss family have their names attached to what is quite an impressive headstone.

“I have been delighted to help them out.”
