Gale force winds are set to blow into renfrewshire
High pressure to blame for ‘potentially damaging’gusts
Renfrewshire should prepare for adverse weather this weekend as ‘very strong winds’ are forecast for the whole of Scotland.
Forecasters are predicting hugely unsettled conditions throughout the country at the end of the week, with gusts of up to 80mph in some parts of Scotland.
Bands of low pressure are set to bring gale force winds in Scotland tomorrow and Saturday, which the Met Office has described as ‘potentially damaging’.
The strong gales will start from noon tomorrow and last until 6pm on Saturday.
The location and strength of the very strongest winds remains uncertain, however average wind speeds of 50 to 60mph are set to cover much of Scotland.
The strongest winds will arrive across northern Scotland tomorrow afternoon, before becoming more widespread overnight and into Saturday morning according to the Met Office.
Temperatures are also set to plummet, with highs of just 4ºC to 7ºC throughout the central belt.
“It’s a settled start to the week, thanks to high pressure”, the Met Office said.
“However, low pressure systems will move down from the northwest, bringing bouts of increasingly cold air later in the week.
“Very windy weather may develop by Friday, with potentially damaging winds in places.”
The Met Office said this has been caused by an area of high pressure over Scotland.
Snow is once again expected in northern Scotland on Friday and Saturday - with a chance of wintry showers in the south of the country.
Strong winds may cause some delays to road, rail and ferry travel throughout Scotland.
There is a slight chance that gusts could cause damage to some buildings - such as tiles blown from roofs - so it is best to keep an eye on your property during the blistery conditions.
Some roads and bridges, including the Erskine Bridge, could face closures as the winds create difficult and potentially dangerous travel conditions.
In addition, there is always a risk of power cuts as weather takes a turn for the worse, with services such as mobile phone signal potentially impacted later this week.
Members of the public are advised to plan ahead and adjust travel plans accordingly to stay safe.
