Council hopeful Sandra vows to put people first

SSP member and poverty campaigner to stand in Paisley

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

The Scottish Socialist Party are putting up a Glenburn campaigner to fight the election in Paisley.

Sandra Webster is standing in the Paisley South East ward and has launched her campaign ahead of the May 5 poll.

The Renfrewshire branch of the party are ”delighted” she has decided to enter the race to Renfrewshire House.

Sandra is a former national spokesperson for the party and was a founder member of the Kids Need Our Ward campaign to stop the closure of the children’s ward at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

She has participated in many other local causes run by the Renfrewshire socialist branch.

Sandra said: “I have been a lifelong campaigner against poverty and inequality and a stalwart fighter for the rights of those whom mainstream parties consistently overlook.

“Putting others first has always been my strength and people before profit my guiding philosophy.”

Originally from Dundee, Sandra worked in the Disability Resource Centre in Love Street and raised her family of three in Glenburn.

She is the main carer for her two sons who are challenged by disability and as a council tenant and a local resident she is very aware of the range of issues faced by the people she seeks to represent in Glenburn

John Miller, secretary of the Scottish Socialist Party Renfrewshire branch, said: “Standing against the current austerity agenda Sandra has fought hard for a fairer society and a more equitable distribution of the resources of our country.

“We are proud and privileged that Sandra will be fighting this council seat on behalf of the SSP and we urge the people of Paisley South East to give us their support and Sandra will fight for the resources the area so badly needs.”
