54-year-old driver freed from vehicle following smash

A woman had to be cut free from her car by emergency services following a crash in Linwood.

Emergency services raced to the scene in Erskinefau­ld Road during rush-hour on Monday following the two-vehicle smash which took place shortly before 5pm.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) had to cut the roof from the vehicle after it collided with another car in near to Our Lady of Peace Primary School.

Specialist tools were used by firefighte­rs at the scene in order to safely remove the 54-year-old driver.

Police and ambulances were also in attendance at the rushhour crash in which the woman and a 61-year-old man driving the other vehicle were injured.

Both were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment.

Police Scotland confirmed none of the injuries sustained were serious or life-threatenin­g.

Officers also confirmed there was no criminalit­y involved in the crash, which was deemed an accident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers were called to Erskinefau­ld Road, Linwood, following a road traffic collision which occurred at 4.50pm.

“A female driver, aged 54, was assisted in her vehicle by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and she was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley alongside the 61-year-old male driver of the other vehicle involved.

“Neither parties involved sustained life-threatenin­g or serious injuries.

“Enquiries were carried out by officers at the time and no criminalit­y was involved.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokespers­on added: “We were alerted at 5.02pm on Monday, March 28 to reports of a collision involving two vehicles at Erskinefau­ld Road, Linwood.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and firefighte­rs assisted emergency service partners at the scene.

“Two casualties were in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
