Bishopton thump Hyndland as season draws to a close

-

BISHOPTON ................................................. 73 HYNDLAND .................................................... 5

Bishopton stormed to an emphatic victory over an understrength Hyndland side to keep their slender title hopes alive.

With the in-form villagers coming off the back of a win last week in the Renfrewshire Cup against Paisley, spirits were high with only two games left in their current league campaign.

First up where Hyndland, as the men from Scotstoun made the trip to Holmpark.

With the visitors turning up with limited numbers, all credit was given to them for travelling and making a game having been able to pick up some additional players late on in the week in order to help bring the league season to an end.

With the conditions perfect for free-flowing rugby, Bishopton were able to make it all work in their favour, running in six tries in the first half to take a healthy score of 38 - 0 into the break.

The second half proved just as fruitful for the rampant home side as they were able to run in a further five tries as they regularly cut open the struggling Hyndland defence.

The visitors however were not looking to leave with nothing as they battled hard throughout the whole match with some strong rugby being played by them despite their numerical struggles.

Midway through the second half their efforts came together as they were able to score in the corner and earn themselves five points, leaving the the final score an emphatic 73 – 5 to the home team.

The win gave Bishopton a much-needed points boost in the search to end the season as close to the top of the table as possible.

The victory puts them just five points off league leaders Cumbernauld, who currently sit on 47 points.

A further bonus point win against Clydesdale on April 9 could see this matched, but another large win will be needed with a points difference of 133 still needing to be overcome.

But all will not be said and done even then with Glasgow University Medics currently sitting on 42 points with two games to play.

That leaves all the pressure on the university men.
