Impressive Hagg Bar A seal Division 1 title yet again

-

Hagg Bar A reclaimed the Division 1 title after thumping The New Saints.

It was a close game at St Peter’s throughout as the singles matches ended at 3-3.

But it was the A team that prevailed in the doubles games, winning all three to seal a victory that means they now cannot be caught at the top of the table due to a superior leg difference over their nearest rivals.

The loss for The New Saints keeps them in fourth spot, with a four point gap between them and third place.

Clachan Arrows remain in second spot after a very convincing 7-2 away win over Arthurlie Inns as they look to end the season in second place.

Arthurlie remain in seventh place and will be the deciding factor in the forthcoming relegation battle, as they face both teams currently below them in the last two weeks of the season.

Flying Horse held on to third place with a very strong 8-1 away victory over Hagg Bar C.

The Flying Horse look to have secured that spot as they sit four points ahead of their nearest rivals but four points behind second spot, with only four points still up for grabs in the remaining two fixtures.

The result puts the Hagg C team in danger of relegation as they now sit in eighth place.

Court Bar hold on to fifth place after scoring a crushing 8-1 home win over Kelburne Cricket Club, with the loss putting the Cricketers in the relegation danger zone along with Hagg Bar C.

They both have the same points total and are separated by a leg difference of two, with the Hagg Bar team currently holding the slim advantage.

Railway Inn look to have secured sixth place in the table after they recorded a 7-2 win over their pub-mates Railway Inn B, who have still to notch up a victory for the season.

The Railway Inn have tough matches ahead but the four point and nine leg cushion they have over Arthurlie Inns could be enough to secure the spot for them.

In Division 2 Pockets A continued on their way to an unbeaten season after they dismissed the challenge of Keystone C with a 6-3 away victory.

The game was very close throughout, with the singles matches being tied at 3-3 before Pockets asserted themselves in the doubles to win all three matches and take the points.

The loss for Keystone C puts them in fourth spot but there are a couple of teams snapping at their heels on the same points, so their position cannot be taken for granted.

Gryffe Inn hold on to second spot after a very tense game at home to Tartan Rose, with the Tartan Terriers pushing them all the way to a last game decider.

The Tartan team were 4-2 up after the singles matches, but Gryffe pushed them all the way as they fought back to make it 4-4.

The game was finally settled in leg three of the last doubles, with the Gryffe Inn duo of Logan McWilliams and David Craig giving their team a crucial two points.

Tartan Rose are now in fifth place and on the same points as Keystone C, but sit four legs away so will be looking to the last two games to improve their position.

Sitting on the same points as Gryffe Inn and just one leg behind in third place are Charleston Arms after an impressive 6-3 win over neighbours The Clachan Bar.

With Charleston Arms managing to close the gap between themselves and Gryffe, next week’s game between the teams has a lot more significance as it could decide who gets promoted and who stays in Division 2.

The loss for The Clachan keeps them in seventh position but only just.

The Hazel Nuts had the easiest of wins this week as their opponents and pub mates Hazel Pirates couldn’t raise a team and had to forfeit a 9-0 scoreline.

The win for Hazel Nuts means they join Keystone C and Tartan Rose on 16 points, and they now sit just two legs adrift of fifth place.

The last result of the week came from Pockets B and Keystone B and it was the Pockets team that made the most of home advantage to take the points in a tense 5-4 win.

The game was tied at 3-3 after the singles, but Pockets made the most of the doubles games and took the points after winning the first two games with Debbie McBride and captain June McCallum securing the points for their team.

There were 16 maximums recorded during this weeks games with Clachan Arrows player Paul Hanvidge scoring two.

The fastest game of the week was shared by two players as Hagg Bar A captain Evander Stevenson and Andy Bryan of Railway Inn both had 15 dart winning legs.

The highest finish of the week also came from Bryan as he took out a 154 finish in one of his games.

Arthurlie Inns Mick McDairmid and Hagg Bar A’s Stevenson managed to feature in all highlights tables as they scored a maximum, finished a game in 18 darts or less and finished with at least 100.

Next week sees the penultimate games of the season with the pick of the action taking place in Division 2 as Charleston Arms play Gryffe Inn with second place at stake. Keystone C travel to The Hazel Nuts, with both teams chasing fourth place, as are Tartan Rose who host Pockets B.
