- BEN RAMAGE

Paisley Rugby Club’s kids are getting a taste of the big time after turning out at Glasgow Warriors’ Scotstoun Stadium.

Members of the club’s Primary 5 squad, plus two of their coaches, were invited to participate in a mini festival where they received coaching and played against other club’s youngsters.

They were then treated to watch Glasgow Warriors triumph over Italian side Zebre in an impressive 40-12 win.

Paisley Rugby Club’s junior manager Laura Critchel said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for them to play in Scotstoun Stadium and will definitely be something to share with their classmates in school!

“Rugby is more than just about athleticism. It also encompasses a healthy attitude towards discipline and respect which is key for children, young men and women in day to day life.

“It really is a great sport for all and Glasgow Warriors exemplify this.”

Last month 10 of Paisley’s primary six players attended the Warriors - Edinburgh derby game, which Glasgow went on to win 30-17.

That fixture was originally scheduled for December 27 last year but was postponed due to covid restrictions.

Critchel added: “The Warriors gave us 12 free tickets for 10 kids plus two coaches, which was incredibly generous of them.

“The juniors, along with other Primary 6 teams from across the Glasgow South and Glasgow North regions, participated in a mini festival before the big game kick-off.

“Our Primary 6’s displayed great sportsmanship in their mini games and then witnessed it in the 1872 Cup Game on the pitch.

“They were delighted with the Warriors’ winning result.”
