‘Mindless vandals are costing us public cash with unsightly graffiti’

- CARLA TALBOT

The actions of mindless vandals who covered a Ferguslie street in spraypaint have been slammed as a “disgrace”.

Residents in Millarston Drive have been left raging after spotting the graffiti which has been sprayed on the pavement, walls and bus stop in the street.

It’s understood vandals targeted the street at the weekend, leaving the “unsightly” scrawlings.

The damage has also been slammed by ward councillor Kenny MacLaren, who urged anyone who may have information on who is responsible to get in touch with police.

Police have previously vowed to crackdown on anti-social behaviour in the Ferguslie Park area following a number of incidents reported by residents including reports of unruly youths hurling rocks at passing cars in nearby Blackstoun Road.

One resident who contacted the Express said: “It is terrible and looks so unsightly.

“It is utterly mindless vandalism and it looks like they have just sprayed all along the street as they were going passed.

“We have had a few problems recently and it is such a shame that a minority of people ruin the community.”

Paisley Northwest councillor Kenny MacLaren has also slammed the behaviour and says it could deter people from moving to the community.

Link Housing is currently building 99 new homes in Millarston Drive, which are expected to be completed by the end of May.

A total of 66 houses have been completed in the partnership development between the council and the Scottish Government.

SNP councillor McLaren said:“This vandalism is a disgrace and will cost public money to clean the bus stop - public money that should be spent on improving services and supporting Renfrewshire residents who are suffering from the biggest cost of living rise in years.

“This is right next to a new housing development where we’re hoping that local residents will move into and make their homes and also not far along from the proposed housing based regeneration at Broomlands Street - but every time something like this happens, valuable council resources have to be redirected to deal with graffiti.

“If anyone knows who is responsible you can report them to the police, to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or the council’s wardens service on 0300 300 0380.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
