Paisley group takes on fast fashion at exhibition

-

An event to highlight the damage caused by the fast fashion industry is being held in Paisley tomorrow.

ReMode, Paisley’s sustainable fashion collective, is hosting the performance and film screening as part of International Fashion Revolution Week.

The event will include a series of short promenade performances and film screenings throughout the day aimed at making people think about where their clothes come from.

The event is designed to be a celebration of garments and films created by ReMode’s young participants, volunteers and guest makers.

The performers are a mixed group of ReMode volunteers from Paisley and the surrounding areas. They’ve been working with Lochwinnoch-based choreographer Jane Simpson to create the event which showcases sustainable fashion.

Jane Dixon, ReMode project manager said:“ReMode exists to promote alternatives to the environmentally damaging fast fashion industry.

“All garments in the show are made from either repurposed old clothes or new garments created from discarded fabric.

“The group has used different techniques such as printing, dying and embroidery in their upcycling processes.”

International Fashion Revolution Week takes place annually on the anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse in 2013.

Established as a time of remembrance of the more than 1,100 people - mostly young women - who lost their lives manufacturing clothes for some of the world’s biggest fashion brands, it is also a time for community activism amongst designers, makers and wearers of clothing.

Revolution ReMode takes place at the Spires Drama Studio, School Wynd, Paisley on Saturday, April 23 at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. Tickets are priced on a“pay what you can”basis from £2 to £6 and are available from www.remodeyouth.org All proceeds to go the running of ReMode.

Next week ReMode is transforming its shop on Paisley High Street into a pop-up gallery to continue the exhibition - which include garments, films and photographs.

The pop up gallery will run from Wednesday, April 27 until Saturday, April 30 from 10am to 4pm.
