Paisley’s UWS is top of Scots education rankings
The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is the leading university for its impact on decent work and economic growth, according to a global higher education league table.
The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2022 measures universities’success in delivering against the United Nations’Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The education body has placed UWS - which has a campus in Paisley - as first in Scotland and fourth in the UK, which seeks to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, as well as full and productive employment and decent work for all.
These global Impact Rankings assess more than 1,400 universities worldwide, with UWS ranked in the 101-200 grouping.
UWS also recorded an institutional score of 85.1 out of 100 – up from 83.4 last year – for its efforts in meeting the goals set by the United Nations.
As well as its working to promote decent work and economic growth, UWS placed highly for Sustainable
Development Goal number ten – reducing inequalities – and scored well in areas such as good health and wellbeing, affordable and clean energy, quality education and partnership for the goals.
Dr Lucy Meredith, Interim Principal and vice-chancellor of UWS, said:“I am delighted that UWS’s global impact has been recognised as part of the THE Impact Rankings.
“It is fantastic to see UWS’s high performance in areas which directly align with our strategic objectives as an institution, particularly for rewarding work and economic growth.
“Our Strategy 2025 set out ambitious targets for UWS to be recognised as a world-leading university through our learning and teaching, our distinctive research and innovation, and the way in which we shape our communities and society.
“Our performance in this league table bring us closer to this goal, and it’s fantastic to see UWS ranked alongside some of the best higher education institutions in the world.”
