- EMYLIE HOWIE

A vile teen who spat at a police officer in the hope she “would die” from covid has avoided jail.

The 17-year-old, who can’t be named due to her age, admitted spitting at various victims and making racially offensive remarks in 2020.

The twisted teen spat at a cop and stated: “I hope I had coronavirus, so that when I spit in her face she would die.”

At Paisley Sheriff Court this week, Sheriff Tom McCartney ordered the teen to carry out unpaid work in the community and warned her to be under “no illusion” that if the she breaches the conditon, “the alternative of detention” would be imposed.

Procurator fiscal David McDonald previously told Paisley Sheriff Court: “On June 1, 2020, police were dispatched to a property in Westwood Gardens due to a 16-year-old acting in a erratic manner.

“On arrival, the teenager was restrained on the kitchen floor by their father and officers entered to calm the teen.

“The teen then turned her head towards PC Adam Cuthbertson and spat on his face.

“A spit hood was requested and fitted and the teen was handcuffed and arrested.”

On November 6, 2020, Kevin Skilling was working at Paisley Gilmour Street Station when he had a run in with the disgusting teen.

Mr McDonald explained: “Mr Skilling was working in the station when he was walking upstairs and he saw a number of youths, including the accused, coming down the stairs.

“The group paused and the accused was seen to lean over and spit causing saliva to land on Skilling’s work vest.

“He turned around and heard spitting and felt something on his back.

“Skilling challenged the youths and they all denied spitting.

“CCTV was later reviewed and the accused was identified as the one who spat on him.”

On December 1, 2020, police attended a disturbance at Achray Drive, Paisley. Here, the teen once again spat at a police officer.

Mr McDonald told: “Due to her behaviour, she was taken to police custody and identified how old she was.

“A guardian was needed and so she was conveyed to Achray Drive and, on arrival, the person responsible said, ‘that’s not my daughter’.

“The teen was placed back in the van and her behaviour escalated.

“She spat at PC Lucy Craig, with the spit landing on her shoes.”

The teen was then taken to her home address where police spoke with her mum.

Mr McDonald added: “PC Hayley Slater took the accused into her property when the teen spat directly at the officer.

“The teen’s mum said, ‘I’m so sorry, I can’t believe she just did that, you can’t get anything, I promise she’s not got any disease’.

“A spit hood was applied to the teen and she was placed under arrest when she said, ‘I was spitting in her face, I’d do it again, I loved it, I’d do it again. I hope I had coronavirus so that when I spit in her face she would die’.

“Once at Greenock police station, the teen stated, ‘That was funny me spitting on her face, hope she dies of covid’.”

Court heard on May 17, last year, the teen also made a number of offensive racial remarks towards cops.

Mr McDonald told: “The accused was within her home address drinking alcohol and got involved in a verbal argument with a family member and emergency services were contacted.

“Police attended and the accused began behaving erratically and was placed in handcuffs.

“She began shouting, ‘I’ll spit on you, I’m going to headbutt you’.

“The conduct continued and she was removed from the property when she stated, ‘I’ll slash your throat, you’re a black b ***** d, I’ll spit on you any day’.

“She was placed in the rear of a police van where she continued to shout and swear including phrases such as, ‘you fat b ***** d’.”

Defence agent, David Nicholson told how the teen was 16 at the time of the offence and she is subject to a supervision order from the Children’s Panel.

Mr Nicholson told how the teen was “ashamed of her behaviour”.

Sheriff Tom McCartney imposed a “direct alternative to custody”, by ordering the troubled teen to complete 140 hours of unpaid work in the community. She will also be supervised byy the social work department for 18 months.

She was placed under arrest when she said, ‘I was spitting in her face, I’d do it again, I loved it’
